Our 1.5TSi Karoq is very quiet. So quiet on a few occasions I have opened the driver's door to get out only to hear the warning buzzer to remind me the engine is still running. For performance it can and has out accelerated a BMW X1 so the 148bhp packs a punch and it is cheap to insure and best economy was 66mpg.

Your reports have always been very impressive in all sorts of ways and based on those, I'd have forked out another £1500 for the extra umph in the 1.5, particularly as there's hardly any insurance hit, but I'm still very happy with the 1.0 performance, particularly when DSG gear lever is pushed into Sport.  I do recall that some early reviewers were enthusiastic about the 1.5, but not all, similar to variation in comments here.  I suppose that illustrates that at least a few 1.5s aren't as good as they could be.  No doubt most are as impressive as yours, but there again, a recent review I read (can't remember where) did note some noise from the engine, including at high revs.

 

You were lucky to get the particular Michelin tyres on your car (Pilots I think) - a recent review found them to be one of the best riding tyres on the market if the competing Goodyears were just a little quieter.

 

I expect there's the occasional duff 1.0 too.  One or two early reviews did also note that this engine made a typical 3cyl roar when pushed hard - I suppose mine does when trying to overtake very quickly + a mild 3 cyl thrum around 1500-2000rpm up hills in a high gear, but cruising along and in most driving, including normal acceleration, it's very quiet.

Back in the 90s I had a 3 cylinder BMW K75 bike. It was very smooth and at tickover I could balance a £1 coin on edge on the running engine (revving would make the coin jump off).

Being half a 6 cylinder it has near perfect balance (only near because of the secondary vibes).  It made a lovely sound when revved. I bounced it off the rev limiter a few times just to hear it.

I quite liked the sound if the 3 cylinder engine fitted to my wife's Citigo. Sounded like a turbine spinning up when accelerating hard yet smooth at the same time as a 3 cylinder makes more sense than 4 from a balancing point of view

Now at 2200...  Bosch Wipers on. Bloody lovely.  

 

Gets another chance to redeem itself on a 450 Mile journey (900 Round) in a few weeks. Got to say knocking around im warming to it.

Just renewed my insurance for half the cost of the previous car. I'm smiling now.

Well it must be doing something right, 28k, 4 years and I still have it - in fact it's all mine - I paid the finance out.

 

I got used to the engine in the end, mainly I was not getting in the right gear and being off the turbo at low speeds

 At higher speeds i adapted accordingly - the engine delivers it's performance in a reasonable way, I still maintain that it "flatters.." but I just got used to it.

 

The suspension over ripples and the worsening pot hols and poor repairs still annoys me, and the high pitched squeak still occurs every few miles and i can't hear it and neither can the dealers..

 

I'll be honest, I don't love it, but I do appreciate it's versatility and functionality. I've contemplated getting an Ora Funky Cat ( now 03)- that's a car I could love! But wife doesn't want an EV and the Karoq walks the tip run hands down. 

So I suspect it's here for a while.

 

And one for another thread, I put some Avon AS7 all seasons on last Nov - a good move given that winter was still in force up to last week. More on those to come.

I'll have had my 1.0 DSG Karoq 5 years at end of July & done almost 30,000mls - at the moment am planning to keep as long as it is still a viable means of transport.  I.e. it remains ULEZ compliant, you can still buy petrol at reasonable price, the car remains reliable & I'm still able to drive, etc.  EVs aren't really an option for me as I have to keep my car on the public highway, but I bet they're nice to drive - instant power, with no slight hesitancy / jerkiness starting off from zero that I reckon is the worst aspect of these incredibly complicated DSGs.

 

Similar comments overall to you regarding ride over ripples and potholes etc., although changing the wheels to 16" and tyres from Bridgestone Turanzas to Hankook AWs did considerably improve things, along substantial reduction in road noise, but probably neither still quite in the Jag XJ6 class.  The 1 litre engine remains remarkably smooth & quiet - performance plenty good enough for me along with good economy.  I've got the commonly noted occasional dashboard rattle, but that's nothing like as annoying as having to put up with lots of constant road noise - used to drive me mad on previous cars.  A few other niggles here and there.

 

You could consider these Koni shock absorbers, once the originals wear out, they got me interested.  Fitting adjustable dampers to my car assume, I would be too much of an effort, but reports here say they do improve ride on appropriate settings in those cars where fitted from new.
