Twin Turbo?

Featured Replies

Hi there. Was thinking I wonder if the VAG twin turbo that's fitted in the T6 204hp would fit the Vrs 184 engine? I think they're the same engine.

Wouldnt work.

Darkside Developments have done a lot of work on these engines looking at what does and doesnt work. The standard turbos max out at about 210bhp. Anything above that and you need a bigger turbo and better fuel pump. He found that egts got hot above that power and lomg term would cause damage.

The main issue is he found was the intake and exhaust valves are not front and back as most engines are. They run side by side which is good for efficiency and emissions but not for making horse power. The development Golf he used had a bigger turbo, fuel pump and head ported and polished and only made 280 something bhp. Normally he would have expected well into the mid 300s with that work.

The standard chargecooler worked very well and did not need upgrading as well as the standard intake and filter. They worked totally fine with the larger turbo and there was no gain by fitting an aftermarket intake system or boost hoses.
