Data protection information message

Featured Replies

In January 2020 I purchased a Škoda Kamiq SE. I had to have an SE since that is a model which can have a reversing camera =  “£300 extra please sir”. I soon found that occasionally when I was reversing the “Data protection information” message would block out the reversing camera. It is necessary to take the car out of reverse gear and return it to reverse gear in order to turn the reversing camera on again.

I took the car to the dealer who said press the “OK” button. This does not turn the reversing camera on again.

I telephoned Škoda UK “Customer Services” who told me to contact the dealer!

I sent a letter recorded delivery to Managing Director Škoda UK. I received no reply.

Thirteen days later I sent another letter recorded delivery to Managing Director Škoda UK. I received no reply.

I then e-mailed a copy of the letter to Škoda UK “Customer Services”. I then started getting e-mails from someone working on behalf of the Managing Director.

Unfortunately Covid 19 intervened, but when the dealers were allowed to re-open the exchange of e-mails started again. I was told it was because I had the settings at “Maximum Privacy”. I tried the other options – “No position data”, “Share my position”, “Use my position” - the “Data protection information”. The “Data protection information” message still appeared.

I was told to set up “Škoda Connect”. I did “Data protection information” message still appeared.

Sometimes the “Data protection information” message appears 5 times on a journey of two miles. It always appears at least twice on a journey.

I have e-mailed Škoda UK asking ““Why is it necessary for the “Data protection information” message to appear more than once on a journey.”

I have e-mailed Škoda CZ asking ““Why is it necessary for the “Data protection information” message to appear more than once on a journey?” They forwarded the e-mail to Škoda UK!

The dealer had the car again, for over a week this time, and told me that all vehicles with the “MIB 3” software did this. They could not answer my question ““Why is it necessary for the “Data protection information” message to appear more than once on a journey?” but I was told I would get an answer but it may take months.

After 7 months and 179 e-mails being exchanged I have not yet received an answer.

Is there anyone who can answer my question ““Why is it necessary for the “Data protection information” message to appear more than once on a journey?”?

Sounds to me like an over zealous implementation of the need to get permission of all those in view when using a CCTV type camera

A year ago I bought a Skoda and soon found that a Data Protection Message kept appearing several times on a journey. I twice sent letters recorded delivery to the Managing Director UK asking “Why does the message have to appear more than once per journey?” but received no reply. Several times I telephoned Skoda UK. I exchanged more than 600 e-mails with 8 Skoda people in the UK and 11 in CZ. The car went to the dealer 5 times a total of 36 days. No one would answer the question. After 11 months I stopped seeing the message because I sold the Skoda and bought a Nissan.
