Chewbacca noise when moving off during rain

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Recently I have noticed an interesting noise coming from the car, but cannot locate it.

It sounds like a deep constant noise, something like a chewbacca would make. Only occurs during rain.

Sounds starts when moving off from a full stop, usually in 1 and 2 gear. I can feel that it is probably connected the the clutch pedal.

Apart from feeling that it is probably connected to the clutch pedal can you feel any other differences with the car?

No, nothing else. Drives fine and has no clutch slip.

Just to add, this noise actually comes on quite rarely, but almost daily. Today I only heard it once whilst reversing (1st time whilst reversing)

Where does it sound like the noise is coming from? Is it definitely only is wet conditions?

You sure you don’t have rainex on the front window and as you accelerated said “punch in Chewie” and, caught up in the moment, heard in your head the Wookiees response?

Are you getting any water on the belt when it rains? The noise tends to only last a few seconds and is obviously exclusive to wet weather.

It feels hairy and matted!

Its a great description of a clutch chirp noise though!

Maybe he has the Skoda Yeti, which would explain the hairy and matted feeling 😉

It does sound like a clutch chirp, but it's just where he mentioned it only happens in the wet to begin with.
