Can you disable the stop/start?

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of a 190 Tsi DSG. How can I disable the stop/start system?

It seems to have a mind of its own. Comes on sometimes but then again it doesn’t. Really irritating and can’t be doing engine any good!

As far as I am aware, you can't disable it permanently, only each time you start up.

Everytime you fasten your seat belt get in the habit of putting stop/start off and job done.  If you happen to be sitting going no place in traffic and at roadworks etc then enable it maybe.  It is as easy as that.

Ps as to not doing the engine any good.   That is exactly why it is only coming on sometimes and stopping the car.  If the load required by the car on the battery is high it is not stopping. If the ambient temp is low it is not, and if the temp you set in the car is too far from the ambient / outside temp it is not stopping.  That is how the system is designed to be.  To get the WLTP certification and RDE2 even if you never allow the stop / start to operate the car had the kidology Co2 g/km figure.

At least Skoda are honest about the mysteries of when or whether the system will actively stop the car.  I can't remember the wording, but the handbook openly says the pattern is beyond what may appear to the driver.

As Roottoot says, it will take into account battery state, current drain, engine temperature and how hard the aircon is working.  I understand it also takes account of the steering angle, whether the indicators are on, the slope, the recent pattern of movement and a host more..

I found the stopping and starting to be disconcerting at first. Then I got used to it and just let it get on with it.  I nowadays hardly notice it.
