MKII noisy and tough reverse selection

Featured Replies

Hi,

Today I have realised that when I would like to switch to Reverse with a fully pulled clutch and without any rolling it is really hard, and when I double clutch it is a bit better but a bit noisy. I did not experience the same in other gear switching. Could it be an old clutch plate or a gearbox issue?

Thanks in advance

Search youtube on adjusting the gear linkage to fix this issue (VW Golf Mk5 etc.).

You certainly do not want to be double declutching to select reverse, it will make any engagement problems far worse.

Definitely try resetting the gear linkage before replacing any parts.

But if I have wrong bushings, there is a play I can see then is it still worth to reset? I thought it worth only if the bushings are replaced.
