Eco Mode

Featured Replies

Hi there   New Skoda owner - Can I run my Octavia Estate permanently in Eco mode?

Yes.

But unless you have a DSG gearbox, don’t expect any difference!

Many thanks to you both.

I do, to salve my eco conscience in my manual combi 1.4l. The full acceleration is still available once you push the pedal beyond a slight click.

I love it when in Eco mode, you take your foot of the excellerator, and the car starts to go faster, free wheeling, especially down hill, even just a little one. There are two as i get near my house 🏡

Tony Octavia,

Do you tow or use a lightboard?

I normally use the eco settings, bit have noticed when I tow or use a hitch mounted bike rack, I plug in a lightboard, the gubbins switches to normal mode, you have to reset to eco.

It amuses me when in eco, the revs drop to near tick over when it's freewheeling at  70 odd, then picks up when under load again, it frit the **** out of me first time ,I thought something calamitous had happened!

I think VAG would have had a few law suits if when towing it stayed in Eco and coasted with the engine "disengaged" from the gearbox.

But I wonder if when the boffins were working on that, that they found out in a test by accident:D

But that is also why when getting a tow bar fitted, it's important that the car is coded to know it's there for the above safety reasons. (Health and Safety Hat off now..)

Eco mode with the DSG is useful in slow moving traffic queues, you get a smoother ride.

We were in heavy traffic a couple of weeks ago on the M5 in Somerset and with ACC set to 20mph in Eco mode on the DSG wife was amazed how the car kept crawling forward following the Audi and braking to a halt as it stopped with my only input to keep it in lane with the steering wheel.

But how do you stay awake?

For motorways I have the "Individual" driving mode set to Eco for engine/DSG and Sport for the steering, and usually but not always the DSG will be in manual and the stop-start will be off.
