Expensive Service

Featured Replies

My Octy vRS had its 2nd service yesterday. 35500 miles Computertold me it was due. The dealers carreid out what they described as a "long-life" service.

Total Price

IMHO, yes.

I paid that amount on my 4x4 at 33k miles. Big service including Brake fluid change. It did seem a lot to pay. That was H L Gorner who are no longer anyway.

got my 4x4 booked in for 60k longlife service. 300 quid. and I feel hard done by!

I don't think that's bad for a main dealer. I paid £380 (ish) for my Passat's 38k - longlife II - service at a VW dealer a couple of years ago, so that's comparable. The Passat was a 130 TDi Sport - I assume the petrol model's about the same?

Land Rover seem to be a bit more expensive though - I was quoted in excess of £600 for the 60k service on a discovery td5 a few years ago. This for a vehicle that's serviced every 10-12k. Needless to say it was done at an independent for less than half!

Not had to have the vRS serviced yet, but I'm tempted by the guys in Chesterfield, as I'd like a couple of other bits fitted at the same time;)

Ben

I just paid £285 for a 2nd variable service.

I had just done air filter myself so they didn't do that but that part is under £15.

I'd check to see if they did brake fluid as that is about £50 and is supposed to be done every 2 years.

Look in this threadList the running costs for certain cars.....

The Octy TDI in there had a second variable service at 38868 miles for £228

Not down south it isn't :P

I called all of the skoda dealers within 50 or so miles of where i was and this was the cheapest.

To reduce the costs of a service I tend to buy my own parts first i.e. oil, oil filter, fuel filter, dust pollen filter etc, as you can tend to buy these yourself cheaper.

Take them into the dealer to use and they will definately save you a few quid, I have done this for years and also did it when I had my BMW motorbike.

You can get cheaper oil from www.opieoils.co.uk and they stock the correct specification as well (Fuchs oil is recommended - terrible name I know).

As my car is now out of warranty I think I will use AWESOME GTI in cadishead Nr Manchester (link on the Briskoda website) as I am sure they will do a better job than a dealer and cheaper as well.

Personally I'd find the cheapest local garage capable of changing the oil and stamping the book (for SH purposes). Pay them their £60 or whatever for their 1hrs labour, and do the rest myself.

Never had my present car 'serviced', but I check the required parts reguarly, and replace when needed, spread out over the year. But, it's not worth enough to worry about service history.

lol mine is inside the three years so i wanted a skoda stamp on it :)
