BLT Stutter re-visited, please help.

Featured Replies

Hi, Just bought a second Fabia vRS, this one is the BLT engine. It pulls really well but hesitates/stutters around 1500 to 2000rpm, especially when I ease off the pedal & keep it at cruise.

The car is a lovely sprint yellow with black leather seats, bought recently from Nottingham. I've already spent lots on this car & really love it, apart from this stutter/miss/hesitation thing.

I'm sorry to bring up such an old subject, but i've searched on here & can only find old threads.

What I need (i think) is the egr blanking plate/gasket, the one with the small hole that needs drilling out to 11mm. I did find the part #, but a search just brought up gaskets, not the plate.

Hope someone may be able to help me. Thanks.

Buy a thin blanking plate, drill an 11mm hole in it. Job done.

Hi sep, thanks for taking time to reply. After an hour searching, that is exactly what i've done. The type with slotted holes so you only need to slacken bolts & just slide it in.

Would it be prudent to purchase new gasket, or just slip the plate in as is.

So how do you get the old gasket out?

And remember to blank it at the right end.

Hang on...

Replace gasket with OEM hole in it with one with 9mm or whatever hole in it. Increase hole size to 11-12mm to avoid CEL.

But if... Install blanking plate after drilling a 11-12mm hole in it. You'll need another gasket. One either side of the restrictor plate.

All this is true, but to save trouble, simply copy the blanking plate with a new gasket by snipping the holes into slots.

Job jobbed without overthunking everything.

I still don't get the point of the slots when you have to take the nuts off the turbo to get the old gasket off anyway?

Because you can get away with leaving the old gasket on the pipe, it's not 'best practice', but it works nonetheless.

Right then! Think you've all provided me with enough info to tackle the job. 2 additional gaskets to go with the restrictor plate, one either side. Can't remember whether i'm 74, or 75 next, so you can maybe understand why i'm getting a little long in the tooth when it comes to getting out the spanners. I do still imbibe in the drink of an evening though (see my early posts lol). So sometimes my posts may seem a little bit muddled.

If I can sort out this problem, the car will be a dream to drive. Will keep you updated when done. Thanks all.
