Hi Everyone!

Just collected my first Skoda on Saturday - 2010 Octavia vRS - so wanted to join the forum and say hello.

Hope everyone is staying safe, well and sane!

Welcome @CarlyonVRS - Is it a petrol or diesel? If it's petrol - please please please make sure your chain and tensioner have been replaced or get it done ASAP.

Thanks @bspman :) It is a petrol. According to the service book the timing belt & tensioner were replaced at 89K. Looks like the replacement interval is about 112K (book says 180k KM) so looks OK in theory (140k miles now) but is it usually a good idea to replace more often than the service interval recommends?

You should be sorted then, I hope!

It was only a case of replacing due to early versions failing.

How long ago did they replace it?

It was done in June 2015 so 5.5 years and 51K miles ago. I’m having it serviced next week so I think I’ll ask them to inspect belt & tensioner while doing the service.

So with the 2010 it should be a facelift (engine code CCZA) and have a chain rather than a belt. There have been a few revisions since the original one but I cannot for the life of me remember the date of the last revision.

May be worth budgeting for it in the future.

Yeah, the book says 'chain & tensioner replaced'. Will ask them to inspect it as part of the service to be on the safe side.
