Airbag light - I assume I need to go to dealer to reset?

Featured Replies

Im assuming there's no in car "trick" to reset this?

Basically I'd fitted a nextbase dashcam and all good and fused to 34 so its off when ignitions off and I didnt trigger the airbag etc on fitting.

However, last night I decided to change the fuse position to a live one when ignition off as want to make use of the parking mode where it will record when parked if the cars bumped?

I changed it to fuse 6 which I checked with a multimeter was live with ignition on. It is apparently for the automatic gearbox which is odd as mine is a manual.
It was after this that Ive got an airbag light and the sos warning :-(

This is on a 2018 Kodiaq if it makes any difference.

Probably just needs the fault code clearing.

Either a dealer or someone with VCDS or similar should be able to do it.

Check the VCDS owners map to see if there is someone nearby:

Or the VCDS owners list:

Just had a look and looks like @ibuprofenn is also Bedford so just sent him a message though he's not been on here since april it seems.

Next nearest is @DGW in St.Neots or @nige8021in Milton Keynes if I don't get a reply in the next day or so as ideally would like it sorted before next Wednesday.

So, Im obviously very naive in thinking I could nip to my local dealer for them to plug in and do a reset but no, they can't do it for me until 5th November!

To be fair @ibuprofenn hasn't replied so guess he doesnt frequent the forum anymore, so @DGW you've a message incoming :-)

A local independent VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi garage should have the correct tools too :)

Skoda bedford were also offering a courtesy car, I say courtesy it was £24 with £1000 excess!!! Im not terribly impressed with them at this point i have to say.

Im almost tempted to get one of these vcds thingys myself but I'd probably **** something else up lol.

you could always buy a code reader/diagnostic with the ability to reset airbag lights

Im assuming though this would be either really expensive or possibly not enough? ie what about the sos light and found out the auto handbrakes not working either.

not very expensive £30/40 is normally enough to find ones that reset EML/Airbag lights  something like this would be sufficient:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KW350-OBD2-Diagnostic-Scanner-for-Car-VAG-VW-Audi-ABS-Airbag-Reset-Oil-Service/233714201694?hash=item366a73b45e:g:P0UAAOSw3LxfYHg6

but if you're sticking with the vag range for the possible future then something like vagcom / VCDS would be much better, but more expensive.

Sorry i'm not sure what the SOS light is but I personally would take the battery off for a bit and try and do a factory reset on info system see if this helps as a start - I assume you've removed the dash cam from fuse 6

Yes, I've removed the cam from that fuse to elsewhere now, I suspect using that one is that triggered something. I may look at a less expensive scanner but certainly the linked ones seller feedback puts me off, as does the reports and warnings of fakes etc.

Did you get this sorted in the end?

If not, I should be in Cambridge on Monday if you want me to clear the code for you. Not super close to Bedford but as close as I tend to get ;)

Sorry for the delay, for some reason im not getting notifications of this thread :-/

Anyway, nope not sorted so as Im on two nights now ill have to carry on and go to skoda bedford thursday morning and see what happens, bit worried to be honest as they dont get great reviews.

Thanks though for the offer mate.

Well it’s taken them 45 minutes so far to ring them up and tell me they cannot seem to connect to the car saying that there doesn’t appear to be a live connection to the on-board computer?

Quick update. Seems the fuse was missing for the computer? So looks like I’ve been more Irish than usual☹️☹️☹️
they’ve now sorted it at cost to me of 57 quid but I’ll take it on the nose.

A missing fuse would do it! Glad it's sorted :)
