Brake fluid question - fao Techie

Featured Replies

Ross,

Question for you re brake fluid:

Why DOT5.1 rather than Super DOT4?

I personally prefer the latter for the following reasons:

1. It is marginally cheaper, however the brake system doesn't need to be as thoroughly bled a when switching to DOT5

2. Dry boiling point is only about 5-10 c lower than with 5.1

3. Wet boiling point is in most cases better

4. It lasts longer (doesn't absorb water so fast, ergo changes are less frequent)

Am I missing something here?

Jon

PS Got the car last night, thanks.

Jon

Congrats on getting the car back, judging by your annual mileage it should be bedded in by Friday.

Didnt think the Superb was quite you somehow.
