Data Connectivity and Skoda Connect query on SE First Edition

Featured Replies

Hi,

Relatively new to the Octavia, so please bear with me.

I recently bought the Estate SE and am a bit confused about whether it supports any data connection.  As far as I can see, I can't find any settings that would allow me to connect using either my home WiFi when parked at home or my phone.  The only Settings option I see is turning the car into a hotspot to allow other device to connect.

The reason I am asking is how else am I suppose to set up a user profile if this is not available at this level?  I have registered an account and vehicle on Skoda Connect, but every time I tried to "Become Primary User" using the login, I get an "Unable to load user profile" error.  I mean, I am okay with not being able to connect because I chose the most basic level and can live with either Bluetooth or Android Auto but it seems like that may be an option.  Do I need to purchase a data plug or similar?

Thanks.

PS, my dealer seems equally unsure when I asked them last week.

Personal opinion but I wouldn't bother - Skoda Connect is junk.

Things seem to have been rushed with the new Octavia. So many niggles with software. Things don't work as they should.

Right - hopefully I can assist.

Your car as standard gets:

eCall
Care Connect Remote Services (1 year)

and

8 speakers
Virtual Cockpit with 10.25" display
DAB digital radio Bluetooth®
Swing radio with 8.25" touchscreen
2x USB Type C ports (for charging and data transfer)
Bluetooth®
Wireless SmartLink for Apple Car Play only (wired for Android Auto and mirrorlink)

This means that you will be able to make Emergency and Breakdown calls to Skoda Assistance.  Skoda Connect should also allow you to integrate into this function to allow you to report breakdowns as necessary.

However, you DO NOT have the Infotainment Online (as your car has the basic Swing radio) - which gives you connectivity to services and maps etc.

However, your plan B is to go with Skoda Connect Lite.  This is a dongle that plugs-into the ODBC2 port on your car and allows you to get telemetary about it that way.  I would suggest (if budget is an issue) - that you go and get the VW ODBC dongle (for about £4 on ebay) as opposed to Connect Lite from Skoda which costs £45 !!!
