No Heat

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia Estate 2004 where the heat inside the car does not work. Nothing happens when I turn the heating knob. Have changed the thermostat in a workshop and it did not get any better. I was advised to change the heating package (Very expensive) or buy a car with working heat (Even more expensive) ...... Or try to "change the heating valve" Manually, with my fingers ....
I understand that it is in this valve the fault lies because there is hot air when I drive at low speed and it is down to approx. 3-5 degrees outside.
Does anyone know how to access this valve and adjust?
Grateful for any help. I need to warm up now that winter is approaching.

If you have heat when moving, it suggests it is the fan which is not working and airflow through the ventilation system is purely by aerodynamic pressure.

Does the fan work?

Hi,

as above try it on manual and turn the fan control up a bit at a time and you should hear the fan. If you only here it on max then the "resistor" pack may be faulty. Both the fan and the pack are easy to change, they are underneath the glove box.

I am sorry to say ...but the heaterfan is working perfectly. It is the knobb that icreases the heat ( the one on the left ) that is the problem.

whatever that little control is conected to does not respond.

I want to know if i can get my fingers on that not responding little rascal and somehow work it manually.

I would suggest removing all relevant items to gain access to the heater air mixer flap and matrix (info on here).

Then you could confirm:

1. hot coolant entering/ leaving matrix

2. air mixer flap moves in accordance with heater control setting.

You may be lucky and it is just a jammed mechanism or loose/bad electrical connector.
