Sticky cluth pedal.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I seem to have an intermittent issue with my 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI 4x4.

Sometimes the clutch pedal stays down and I'm unable to change gears. I have to lift the clutch up with my foot and then all is OK.

I've been told by a mechanic that the clutch itself is fine.

Any ideas what this could be?

Cheers :)

You have a worn clutch master/slave cylinder or a leak in the system not being replenished by the brake fluid reservoir.

You could try pressure bleeding the system to see if that helps,  I did on mine and the fluid that came out had deteriorated to something resembling milk and I've not had problems since.

Hiya,

I checked the system and there was some air trapped in there but after a day the issue started again. Will change the clutch master cylinder and hope that solves it.

I've also heard it can be an issue with the bearing in the gearbox but nit sure if the mechanics are just trying to fleece me.

I would suggest the slave cylinder is more likely at fault since it resides in a more arduous environment.

If the clutch release bearing was faulting I think you'd know about it.

Stick with the hydraulic side of things especially since you found trapped air.

Hi,

Is this the part that lives behind the clutch pedal?

No, that is the master cylinder.

Oh dear :(

Do you know if it's an expensive job?
