Ticking sound from engine

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a ticking sound seeming to come from the passenger side of my engine (2 litre TDI 170) between 1500 and about 1700 rpm even when stationary and in neutral. It's quite discreet but I hear it all the time and it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Hi, What year and mileage ?   Some folk report issues with the clutch, well reported on here if you do a search.

I also had an issue with a flexi pipe which was rattling against the chassis when I first got my car, have a feel around the air filter housing area when its running.

The pipe was simply cable tied back from the chassis and the noise was cured.

It's 2011 and 115k miles. No sign of slippage with clutch

I will look at those thanks, it seems it was the air box tubing between the airbox and the front of the car. Noise is gone after giving those tubes a wiggle

Sounds like what was wrong with mine when I got the car, it was a flexi pipe which was rattling on mine.

The clutch issue is certainly something to be aware of...

Cheers
