Park Assist - parallel parking

Featured Replies

Just want to preface this thread with this isn't a debate on the merits of whether or not you should use park assist, I've rarely had the need to use it but the couple of times I've used it for parallel parking the results are pretty embarrassing.

I was bored tonight so drove around parking at random spots, I must've looked funny parking, taking a picture, then getting back in and driving off 😂. Some of the park assist attempts are shocking, requiring a taxi between the car and curb and always seems to leave a bigger gap at the rear..

What are people's experiences with park assist and parallel parking?

I have to be honest and say that I love the Park Assist on my Superb and as i live in London i use it a lot and 99% of the time  it parks the car perfectly in some tight spaces as well.  Sometimes it claims it's blocked on the other side due to the narrow streets of London but if you move further forward it calculates it can still turn in on most occasions.  It certainly does not do the above where the rear sticks out and leads me to believe something has not been calibrated right on your car in the factory and perhaps you should go back to your dealer for re-calibration.  For me this is one of the best features of the car amongst many others of course.

I've had the car from new and in over 4.5 years I've never used it. I do find the rear view camera very useful though.

I had it on my mk2 and it was excellent. Always got me into spaces I would never have attempted myself and always seemed to park pretty close and parallel to the kerb.

I can remember a few occasions when it got me in a really tight space that I thought I was gonna struggle to get out of again!

The few times I've used it - it's been good, nice clean finish.

Mine is MY17.

The perpendicular parking is fine, just parallel

In any case, the dealer will have the car soon to fix some rattles and asked them to look at it but not holding my breath

I see there's a few parameters you can change with VCDS if it comes to that I'll try fix it myself
