Trying to connect MySKODA, but every time I try, Android Auto just starts... I'm probably an idiot!

Featured Replies

Ok, I recently bought a 2016 Fabia. I am very pleased with it, and I want to connect it to the MySKODA-app. I have entered the VIN-number in the app, and then it tells me to connect the phone to the vehicle to activate SmartLink+. But when I connect to phone using an USB-cable, Android Auto just starts, and the MySKODA-app just keeps staying on this picture... What's wrong with me? :-)   Why can I not get this to work?

Your car doesn't have smartlink+ just standard smartlink.

You'll only be able to have the use of Connect light/my skoda light which requires a dongle for the OBD port that is available online or from your local dealer.

Thank you, James... Yes, I am certain, you are right. Can you tell me, what is the difference between Smartlink and Smartlink+?

I am in Denmark, and here we have a 'local' app called MinSKODA (MySKODA in Danish). On the Danish Skoda webpage it says, that in order to use the MinSKODA-app, I need to have a dongle installed. And they say, it is free to have installed

Do you think, that is the same dongle, as the one you wrote about?

Smartlink+ allows for wireless android auto connection, presumably through the WiFi on newer infotainment systems.

I dare say the dongle will be the same one I've mentioned

No problem

In my case, with a MY19 the same thing happens with Android, but if I connect an IPHONE it works without a problem.I have asked in my local dealer  but they cannot find an explanation.

I have read, I don't know exactly where, that this application only works with mirrolink and with carplay. If your android does not have Mirrolink it will not be able to connect.

SmartLink+ is supposed to work via USB. Mine worked on iPhone before the app was replaced with the new MySkoda App and this was via USB. I now have an error on my Infotainment unit that the dealer is going to look into after discussions with Skoda UK. CarPlay works fine, but the MySkoda App refuses to load and says my Car does not support SmartLink+ when it did prior to the app change. 67 Plate Octavia SEL.

This link refers to Smartlink+ via USB.
