Still! Cannot see/find this coolant temperature sensor( 06A 919 501 A ) location

Featured Replies

Hello all car is 2010 ccza engine code mk2 octavia vrs 2.0 Tfsi

I have spent ages now looking into and under the car trying to find and replace this #1 of 2 of these sensors on my car.

Ive replaced one new one already at the bottom of the radiator/passenger side but with a torch in every nook and cranny,I cannot for the life of me find the Primary? One.

Conflicting diagrams tell me it’s either  behind the inlet manifold or if I pull the fuel filter housing out of the way.

This should be a 2 minute job of pull the electrical connector off, pull with pliers the U shaped clip, replace the O ring with a new one, reconnect and clear the code.

Code P2185 Engine coolant temperature sensor 2 (G83)Circuit High on Carista refuses to clear and symptoms are white smoke from exhaust and I think high mpg.

Any definitive help would be greatly received Thanks so much.

G83 is the one you've already found and changed, so focus on the wiring to that and forget the other one.

That.Is just what I wanted to hear. You’re a God Send Wino.

Thanks again

Did I tell you about where the wires go before?

If not I'll look it up tomorrow.  Most likely a problem at or near the sensor connector I think, but I should be able to find info so you can do end-to-end continuity checks, if you have a simple multimeter.

Granted,They are weak looking Vag connectors throughout- brittle looking.

I do have a good meter so that would be most helpful Thank You.

I managed to get to the bottom of the radiator fans going mental and draining my battery tho.

Today i took the “E box” fuse box inside the engine bay, next to the battery apart .One of the maxi Fuses- A 40amp one had some condensation in its little window.

Although the top part of the fuse box looked bone dry,on taking apart I found a small amount about 2 tablespoons of water across all of the contacts.

Bring on the wife’s hairdryer-gave it a good 10 minute blast and then some electrical contact cleaner, put it back together, scanned/erased codes and not a peep from the fans since.

Battery still reads 12.6v some 8 hours later so happy with that.

The garage trying to find the problem affecting multiple sensors (later traced to be the DPF differential pressure sensor) were also on a wild goose chase to find the second temperature sensor that didn't actually exist.

It could be another example of a confusing or downright incorrect VCDS description.

I can’t wait to have a fiddle with that same, easy to find sensor again and hopefully fix and clear that bloody code tomorrow morning!

If you disconnect the one you have found and it gives a different fault code then you can be confident that there is indeed a second one hiding somewhere.

Bloody brilliant idea! I will deffo do that first

Many Thanks

OK, G83 wiring to engine ECU:

Pin 1, yellow wire to ECU pin 36

Pin 2, brown wire to ECU pin 12

Inspect connections both ends for looking for corrosion too.

The other sensor, G62, the primary coolant temperature sensor is easily visible in these images of the water pump assembly.  It's the grey plastic connector in the corner:

Water Pump - PW0009 ET Engineteam - 06H121026AB, 06H121026AF, 06H121026AG | K MOTORSHOP

Very much harder to see when the water pump is on the engine, I have no doubt.

Tucked under intake manifold, follow the two big coolant hoses up to it, just to the nearside of the oil cooler as I said in your last thread about this.  I don't think you're likely to need to be getting there, but others searching and finding your thread title may benefit.

On my car the g83 sensor is at the front behind the egr valve, just thought it may help.

Hello there.

Yes this is an ongoing issue,4 original sensors and a rewire and still showing on vcds as faulty but the car does not overheat at all, always bang on 90 on the gauge.

Thank you very much.

I will look into your findings,If it solves the issue I will post up for people in the future who may need that help.

The g83 sensor I believe just operates the cooling fan, the g62 effects the engine running, its usually found on the right of the cylinder head in the coolant pipe

Aha! That would make sense,as also on my vcds, the cooling fans, both 1 and 2 keep coming up now, too.

I was going to upgrade the fans….

I have looked everywhere for this sensor, spent hours trying to find it including online.

My car is a petrol Mk2 vrs estate. Will it have an egr valve?

Do you have a photo of this sensor please?

Many Thanks again

Well my car is the 2.0tdi 16v diesel, but.... If you locate the bottom hose on radiator, & follow it along its path, you will come to T junction & there you will find the g83 fan sensor, took me 2 days to find & there in different places per engine but.. The common factor is its in the bottom hose. The g62 is easier to locate, again in the coolant hose right side below cylinder block, there both the same size & deal, ebay £6.90, but check it fits your vehicle
