TP-Link hot-spot not working

Featured Replies

Hi team,

hope you can help me out. I bought a TP-Link M7200 4G pocket wifi router with an O2 data sim card inserted to use it as a hotspot in my Superb iV. I could connect to it with my phone, it is working fine, but simply I cannot connect to it with my Superb IV. It recognizes the WiFi, I can see it in the list bit the Wifi icon is crossed with a red line and if I want to connect to it, it is showing me an error "this type of connection is not supported"

Any idea what can be wrong? I tried with password required, free login, pin enabled/disabled but no luck.

Thank you so much for your feedback

Can you put the sim in the skoda and let the car be the hot spot (as well as have access to the data)?

Unfortunately not in the MIB3 anymore

Could it be that the car doesn't support the security type that the router uses.

Maybe try accessing the router settings and change it to a different protocol.

According to the manual the car only supports WPA2.

Yeah that is what I thought, and it did not work :-( WPA, WPS, none works :-(

But have you actually gone into the router settings and changed it to WPA2?

Sorry, I'd not twigged to that one. As a test, will it connect to your phone as a hotspot?

No probs....yes it connects my phones hotspot + also I can connect to the router via the phone as well. It's just the car does not want to connect

Hi,

what you need to do is connect to the IP of the TP-link (you may need to look on the router DHCP table to find it.) Then log in with admin and change the wifi protocol from auto to WPA2 and it should be OK

Thank you John, I tried that already but no luck...WPA2, WPA, no security at all...but unfortunately all the time my Superb showing its not supported connection 😔

Have you tried changing the WiFi name? Just a thought. Could be that the car doesn't like the length or characters in the name or something.

Yes 😔 removed all dots, underscore etc. and it has like 8 digits...still no luck

This may be a complete red herring and if so I apologise, but I could only ever establish a connection to my Golf 7.5 with a 3G network signal - I had to disable 4G/LTE because for some reason it doesn't like a WiFi connection unless it's through a 3G source.

I will definitely try this one out, thank you

I'm clutching at straws here, but how about:  making the SSID simple text only (eg tplink), limit to 1 standard, eg G, and just WPA2.

A further ponder - is the hotspot option unticked (on the head unit)?

Is there no option for just WPA2? It seems it's set to WPA or WPA2 automatically?

It has only 3 options...the one on the picture + the same but with AES at the end + unsecured...tried all 3 and still nothing :-( might be the problem that it can't be set to WPA2 only? If so, I am going to return it
