bluetooth on Octy II

Featured Replies

take a good look at this and it works!!! I

Am I right in thinking that in the UK we can't get any factory fit Handsfree? Is the dealer fit one the same as the factory one, just fitted by the dealer?

Do UK cars have the connector under the passenger seat - ie would we just need the interface box and the Bluetooth Antenna, or will that still not work without extra bits?

Questions questions...

I've been through all this before. As far as i'm aware the connector under the passenger seat isn't there. If it was then there would also be an unused connector on the radio loom at the other end and there isn't.

You need to have the multifunction steering wheel fitted and after fitting the kit the functions of all these buttons will be different so you can answer the phone and use voice commands etc so you need to get used to that.

The dealer fit handsfree is a Cullman kit as far as i'm aware. It's a wired system and the cradle has to be purchased to suit your phone. A limited range of cradles are available for Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Siemens phones. I'm not aware of a dealer fit bluetooth kit but if they do one it's probably just a Nokia kit or something. Definately not the item referred to in this thread anyway.

Also, for certain regions (not UK) a wired cradle type handsfree option is/was available which allowed you to view the phonebook and incoming numbers etc on the maxidot screen but as far as i'm aware the bluetooth version doesn't allow this extent of integration. So it's pointless really.

An after market Bluetooth kit will do exactly the same thing and more. At least that would be guaranteed to work.

Surely you would also need a microphone somewhere.

Thanks for that response - I shall stop thinking it's even an option to consider!

I thought that you had the interface box...mine came whit one it has microfone everything was ready except not activate and the dealer told that it was not possible to put the factory bluetooth guess he was wrong :P

I am desperately trying to find out about the bluetooth kit for my Octy II vRS. According to the manual on Page 174/175 it states about the bluetooth kit. It also mentions the cradle though. I have a blackberry 7290 for my sins but would rather have the skoda kit than a parrot as I already have a tomtom on my windscreen

Forget it mate. It aint gonna happen. I've been through all of this with Skoda, VW and Cullman who make a lot of the kits and even if it was possible you are looking at several hundred quid to install it in a UK spec car.

Not a problem, my companies paying

The top of the range Tom Tom has a Bluetooth hands free kit built in as far as i know. Good functionality but it's not hard wired to the radio so you're stuck with the built in speaker.

The Parrot kit can be mounted anywhere basically. You dont have mount it on the windscreen.

Not quite, me thinks - the tom tom 510 has the ability to connect to a car radio via the aux input, and in fact, the lead is supplied with the tom tom, in the box!

Do you mean the aux input or handsfree input? To use the handsfree input on your car radio you also need a mute connection to the radio as this 'switches in' the hands free input.

I assume you mean the latter otherwise it's a total of a waste of time in my book on the basis that you have would have to manually switch over to aux on the head unit to use hands free or get voice instructions through the car speakers.

In contrast to this, the Parrot CK-3300 for example will automatically interrupt the audio on the head unit in the event of a call or to give sat nav instructions as it has a connection to the mute wire on the radio.

Forgive me if I seem a liitle naive but as I thought that bluetooth was the way to go I went to my local Carphone Warehouse yesterday and was quoted

scotskoda in that case just get the antenna! lol

Just fitted the sony ericcson blue tooth kit using the instructions that someone has posted on here (sorry forgot who but many thanks they were a great help). I've put the little joystick on the steering column (just under the left stalk) and the liitle screen fits perfectly above the stereo. I think it took about 3 hours to fit and my local dealers (thumbs up from me) give me the little connector block on the back of the radio. When making/recieving a call the stereo mutes and the sounds comes through the speakers - i think the kit was about £100

What would they fit? and how would they fit it?
Wouldn't CPW be the bext people to ask these questions - although we can hazard a guess, they will know what kit they are supplying. If you can find that out, confirming whether or not it's any good is a lot easier :)

Thanks for the info guys, I did think that the CPW price was expensive but I would never take the first price that I was quoted without checking out what other people charge. I was offered a choice of two cradles, one was a parrot and the other a nokia both with dash mounted buttons, I think. I did ask about how good a fit they could gaurantee, i.e I don't want loose bits of trim or exposed wiring and they said it would come through the car speakers i.e no separate speaker. Any ideas on who else to speak to about about a cheaper price?

Where are you. ICE specialists usually do it and theres loads of companies on the net that will drive to you. Or you could do it yourself if you are anyway technical minded.

I live in Edinburgh. The reason that I was wanting someone else to do it is that I have just moved house, have an eight week old baby (yes I know this is not a great bit of planning, but a house that we have always admired came on the market recently and we couldn't turn it down) and although I am reasonably technically minded I just wanted a decent job done. I thought about getting Vodafone to do it but they are expensive also.

In which case, try http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/ who are local to you. Although I have never bought from them, they offer good online technical support (which I have used) and he also offers a fitting service to those in his local area.

Thanks very much for the info - exactly the sort of thing that I was after and a small local company into the bargain! I will enquire as to fitting, prices etc and let you know how I get on.

Cheers.

Their fitting prices are Here. They sell the Parrot CK-3100 for £99 so you could have it supplied and installed for around £160. That's a bargain.
