octavia eng change

Featured Replies

Hello guys, can anyone advise me on an alternative engine for '56 Octavia 1.9 TDI ?

This, belonging to a family member, was driven into a flood, stalled, but managed to restart and drive on. Since then, it has been running on 3 cyls. Although it drives, it obviously can't be used. I have carried out a compression test, and no. 4 is way down, so I think it has bent a con-rod.

I am wondering how practical it would be to fit a 1.9 TDI from a 05 or 52 reg Passat?

I would appreciate any advice or comments .

Even though it's similar, a Passat 1.9pd at this age has a totally different North/South orientation compared to the transverse of the Octavia. The Passat engine would better suit a mk1 Superb!

A VW Golf or Seat Leon 1.9pd engine would be much better suited.

Thankyou John. That's the info I was after, I know from experience, that although a base engine may be the same, it's easy to get caught out with silly little subtle changes. I was afraid there might be problems. Plan A will be followed, to the bin with it!
