Afternoon all!

Collected my first Skoda (or any VAG motor in fact) this morning and so far very impressed!

Ive been looking for a quick, large petrol estate to replace and ageing but much loved Alfa 156 V6. Manufacturers don’t build a lot of large quick petrol estates anymore so the Octavia VRS quickly became the first choice. Not many around in my £10k budget until this appeared locally a few weeks ago. Ironically it had been for sale privately on Facebook before Christmas so I knew a little about it. 2014, 60k on the clock, manual. Part leather red trim inside. Interestingly it apparently has a 310bhp Quantum Red remap so a bit of investigation there is needed, any info welcome.

No plans for it at the moment beyond family wagon duties except for the alloys, can’t decide if I’m on board with the black. Respray/replace or go full black pack and put the mirrors and grill on to match? Thoughts?

Anyway, that’s the story so far, nice to find a good community here, looking forward to getting stuck in.

Hi!

Sorry about the badly shared photos! Used the wrong format!

Hello and welcome! Saw your posts on piston heads as well, looks like a great car! There is a wealth of info in the MK3 Octavia section, if you haven't already had a good browse prior to purchasing

What's the spec like?

It’s a petrol TSI as I don’t do many miles, even out of lockdown.

The remap is the main thing I’m interested in finding more about at the moment, apparently it’s a Quantum Red (?) and makes about 310bhp but I noticed it had a new clutch last year so I’m hoping it’s not over stressed. Need to find a bit more info on here if I can. No plans to alter at this point although the alloys are still debatable.

Also, it needs mats!!

Remapped ones are known to be harsher on the manuals than DSGs so it seems to tie in.

The proper Skoda rubber mats are excellent this time of year. As is the rubber boot mat liner.

Well that bodes well.

I am not planning on going too hard on it regularly so hopefully it will survive! When the time comes I guess we’ll look at some sort of upgrade.

Ah yes, PH is a regular haunt, the online car community is a small world. It’s been a very useful resource when trying to find a good replacement for the Alfa. The purchase wasn’t supposed to happen so quickly but the Alfa’s had a problem or two and this came up very local. Hopefully I’ve not rushed into it. It’s impressing me so far.

First drive out and I caught an alloy, no surprise there!

I’m still very undecided on the black, there’s a set of 5x112 18 Inovit Sonics on FB with decent tyres in silver, which I’m tempted by. Logistically (if not cheaper) I guess it easier buying a new set and selling/paints the old ones than respirating an existing set of wheels?
