Removing front seats without setting off airbag light

Featured Replies

So I want to remove my front seats to dry out the carpets due to fairly epic pano roof leakage (solution to which is in the testing...will update one of teh numerous threads on that one once tested). They are electric sport seats with airbags, and i dont want to set off the airbag light.

Do i need to unplug the battery before disconnecting the leads under the seats? If so, do i need to leave the battery unplugged until i have reconnected the seats?

Or if i  disconnect the leads and then don't put a key in the ignition until they're plugged back in will i be ok?

Many thanks!

Its best practice to disconnect the battery whilst playing with airbags, I do believe you could reconnect the battery afterwards and as long as you don't turn the ignition on it shouldn't bring the light on, but I havn't tried it for a number of years.

Great, thank you. These cars dont do anything weird when you reconnect the battery do they? Unbelievably, in 5 years and 107k i haven't ever had to

All I can think of is sometimes the steering light might come on but it will go off as soon as you start driving.

Great, thanks again

I had a selection of lights come on after disconnecting the battery. They all went off after a short drive. You may need to reset the windows and pano roof, see manual for details.
