MK1 Fabia vRS Starting Issue

Hi all,

I have a 2004 Fabia vRS running 240bhp & 460nm. It has a problem starting up where it will start but seconds after it will die and cut out. This doesn't happen every time I start the car but happens more often than not. Usually, it will start after the 2nd or 3rd attempt. However, I filled the car up the other day and the issue happened again but didn't start until the 10th - 15th time trying to start it. I have been told different ideas from the crankshaft sensor, coolant temp sensor, camshaft sensor ad some more. I've scanned for any fault code but none have shown up so I'm a bit stuck.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.

Check the glow plug fuse on top on the battery, they break. Check the timing if you have access to VCDS program.

 

Engine won't run if the timing isn't spot on. Found that out when i did my cambelt.

Thanks for your advice mate, I don't have access to VCDS sadly but I'll try find someone who does aha, I'll check the glow plug fuse tho.

If it's got the in-tank fuel pump under the rear seat, check it is pumping fuel ok.

 

It should run for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on, then also while cranking the engine & when running.

Thanks for the reply mate, When I turn the key over I can hear the fuel prime correctly if that answers your question?

Unfortunately not mate, I had a new crank sensor fitted on Wednesday and that didn't fix it, Looking at swapping the ECU with my mates soon to see if it's a problem with the map or not.

I've had a look for the glow plug fuse on top of the battery like you said but not sure what I'm really looking for aha. 

Attached an image for you to see, don't know if it tells you anything but worth the shot mate aha.

Those metal strips on top of the battery are fuses. I think the glow plug one is second from bottom.

 

They can crack with vibration making the connection intermittent. Give them all a check and a clean up.
