Changing glow plugs mk3 octavia 2.0

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I’m Going to change the four glow plugs in my Mk3 2.0 diesel Octavia.

When phoning to order the glow plugs they told me one of the 4  has a sensor.

Can anybody advise which cylinder the sensor plug goes in please?

The OBD fault (P0674) says cylinder four so is this the cylinder that the plug with the sensor is fitted in?

Is there any way to tell by looking at the glow plugs as I remove them which one is the sensor version?

any help or advice much appreciated before I start the job.

Cheers.

It is cylinder 2 with the pressure sensor on. You need a 12mm glow plug socket for that one and also a 10mm one for the others.

Also use genuine glow plugs as the system is sensitive to the resistance in them. I fitted NGK and they all went again withn 1 week. Fitted genuine glow plugs and worked fine.

Also dont over tighten the plugs. I think the pressure sensor is about 7lbs to torque up. The others I think  were 15lbs. Basically lightly hand tightened.

Mark, accept my apologies. It is cylinder 3 and not 2. Fat thumbs.

You can tell which one is the pressure sensor glowplug, as it has extra wires going into it.

Hi,

I've recently purchased an Octavia vrs mk 3 and it had issues starting up when I went to pick it up. I mentioned this to the dealer and they had 2 new glow plugs fitted as they were reading low so I was told. When I returned to pick up the car, a day afterwards, it was turning over alot again and an orange engine light is on but goes off when I start the engine.

I believe its the glow plugs still and will look at reading them myself with a multimeter. You mentioned that NGK ones didn't work and to use genuine ones, which ones did you end up buying? What brand? Or were they skoda ones and where can I purchase these?

Cheers,
