Android radio

Featured Replies

Hello folks just new to the forum I am looking to buy a android radio for my 2012 Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI CR vRS . Does anybody have any recommendations as to the best one to buy. My budget is around £250. I need to know what type of din and does the android radio support all the features that are on my Octavia. For example does IT support the parking sensors etc. I do not have stock controls on my steering wheel. Thanks in advance. #Keepsafe # stayathome.

I am in a similar situation, with my Columbus unit in my 2011 Superb becoming unreliable and cutting out, and thinking I'd like to get an after-market replacement with Android. The one I have homed in on is sold my Amazon, and seems to tick all the boxes - Vanku Android 10, DAB+, links to car features, etc., so any advice from forum members would be most welcome if they have had experience of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vanku-Android-Navigation-QUALCOMM-Fast-boot/dp/B08CHGNZJK/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=vanku+android+10+Satnav&qid=1613904756&s=electronics&sr=1-4

TBH, I have never been very impressed by the Columbus satnav; it's route mapping is poor with many deviations from the correct route, and the maps are hopelessly out of date, even on the most recent version. My Waze or Google Maps apps are streaks ahead, and give real-time traffic advice. Also, I would quite like DAB+ included too!

Just took the plunge and fitted an Android stereo.

It's a Junsun V1 (I think lol).

10" screen.

Was plug and play and supports all CAN bus features (door indicators, climate, turning on and off and other vehicle information).

Looks great. And sounds great too. Got my phone connected up. I'm using a microphone in the overhead interior light like the OEM but with a standard microphone jack (FISCON 36338-2).

Then got a reversing camera from China on the way. It can with one but it's ugly. And also the stereo shows up the dynamic steering lines when in reverse (they turn with the wheel just like the OEM system) so needed a camera without the inbuilt static lines.

Also got a couple of USB Adapters that slot into the buttons by the traction control buttons etc.

I also noticed this evening that it still also shows up in the Maxidot too which is a nice surprise.

Maxidot? Is this a German thing? Was ist?

No. Maxidot refers to the upgraded dashboard where you can change settings etc.

HI Phil, could you let me know how much you paid for this Android unit? And maybe post a link to the site where you bought it? I assume it will fit my Superb the same as it fitted your Octavia.

I paid 178,99€ but it was from a German seller (since that's where I live):

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Autoradio-Navi-Fuer-Skoda-Octavia-08-09-10-11-12-2013-Android-GPS-USB-DSP-2-32G-/383809536210?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

You can get them cheaper on eBay from China sellers but they are often 1GB of RAM and 16GB storage. Quite often it seems they also lie about their android versions (they say Android 9 but it's actually 8.1go at best).

This one actually is 2GB/32GB and actually has Android 10 with full Google apps and play store support etc.

Not sure about the Superb as maybe the trim is different.

OK, that is quite a bit cheaper than the one I have in mind! But then the Vanku is 4Gb RAM with 64Gb storage, and I know it fits the Superb. So I'll be ordering it soon, time to act :) Thanks for your help.

Yeah I figured 32gb was enough since I won't be storing any music on it. I play music via Bluetooth or I had a spare 240GB SSD and USB enclosure so I have that plugged in with a load of music and videos on.

The full canbus integration was a nice surprise as it didn't actually show this or go into any detail about it.

I had to delve into the hidden settings and find some code on Google though to access the CAN settings first.

Just stumbled across this thread and I've just fitted a similar one in my Mk3 Octy and ordered on aliexpress specs etc as ordered 4gb/64gb octacore etc etc there are hundreds of sellers with different brands against the same unit form factors with varying internals and software set ups on there. But mine was £162 delivered and has been fantastic so far, the same seller here of mine has all other models etc so might be worth seeing one someone has used before.

If anyone is interested in retaining a factory aux in socket then I've just managed to sort mine out.

Bought these little pins that match those socket for the aux in at the back of the stereo. Chopped up an unused RCA cable, pin on each core wire, the 2 grounds together and pushed the pins into the quadlock.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/10x-MQS-Quadlock-Stift-Stecker-Kontakt-Set-PIN-0-50-0-75-Fakra-MOST-VW-BMW-/152871039441?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

Working aux in the armrest now.

I've also taken the plunge and ordered the kit that replaces the antenna amplifier and splits the signals to give DAB.

The estate has an antenna in the rear that is then used for DAB.

I toyed with replacing the aerial etc but it would involve running a few additional cables. And the cheaper aftermarket aerials get awful reviews.

And everywhere I read about people having replaced the amplifier have nothing but praise for the DAB signal.

Everything as in satnav directions and phone book like OEM? I'm interested in getting an android stereo but don't really want to loose out on the maxidot features.
