I noticed that the rear of my 18 plate 280 L&K was sitting a bit low when I hitched up my PRG twin axle the last time I headed off for a track day.  All handled fine, but got me wondering what other people towing rigs look like.

Got a Sportline which is apparently 15mm lower than standard Superb, Tow a 1500kg single axle caravan and when hitched it sits as low as that, although the boot is fairly full and normally have 4 bikes on the roof, tows brilliantly and with no problem so not overly bothered myself although have looked at having auxiliary springs added to rear but was worried about how they would affect the day to day ride and handling, decided for the 30 or so times I tow my caravan a year just to have it as it is.

I run about 80kg (max is 90) on the hitch and there's usually an 80kg(ish) mobility scooter in the boot. Then just the two of us and luggage.

 

My MkII estate sat lower with the same caravan and a 70kg hitch.

I bought a 280 estate before xmas. What sort of MPG are you seeing towing? My old Octavia II 4x4 TDI used to do more towing than the 280 does solo! 

 

I've not towed with mine yet due to lockdown but it will be towing my RIB below as soon as I'm allowed out. Only about 60KG on the drawbar and just under 1300kg. I'll add a photo with the car as soon as I have one!

Nice RIB!  I had an S2 L&K 2lt petrol before this one and it gave around 31mpg on Tesco 99 or 97 RON solo.  The 280 can return 30 if I drive gently.  In Eco I can get 36 or so, but really, why buy a 280 if you are going to blunt it’s performance.

Towing, I got around 23-26 mpg, but then the rear wing of the Atom acts like a huge air brake when it’s on the trailer!

a set of spring assisters (auxiliary springs) help a lot. i've had them in my 280 since the week I bought it, and it does help keep the back of the car at a more useful angle when towing
