Dim generator light blinking and illumination with indicator and cruise control

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone would be able to help me diagnose a problem that has started to appear a month ago on my Rapid.

The generator warning light (battery light) will illuminate dim (much dimmer then during the warning light test before engine start) when:

1) Activating cruise control - illumination constant until cruise control desactivation, then extinguishes

2) Using the right indicator - light will blink together with the right indicator, not a constant illumination.

I have brought my car to my mechanic.

No fault codes are found.

Generator charges battery at correct voltage when engine is running (14V).

My mechanic couldn't see the light illuminate due to the low winter sun.

Thus far, no starter problems or battery problems, even in the very cold weather last two weeks.

No illumination of the warning light with all the heavy loads activated together (seat warming, rear view window heating, airco max heating, lights on.

If anyone could point me in a direction to where I could find the problem and/or a solution, it would be much appreciated!

Have a nice day.

Forgot to add, this is a 2013 Skoda Rapid, 1.2TSI, 63KW.

Immediate thing that comes to mind is that your battery is knackered. Have you put a battery tester on it yet to check the state of the battery (rather than whether your alternator is working)? At the end of the day, the warning light you are having issue with is the battery, so that needs to be your first point of investigation.

Other than that it also possibly just an early sign of instrument cluster failure.

Battery is also fine and at a good voltage.

Was replaced last year in June.

Thanks for your opinion!

Could it be that there is connection between a wire from the indicator and cruise control (both on the left handle behind the steering wheel) and the battery light? That whenever power is supplied, the light also illuminates?
