Rear Washer Not Spraying

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know this topic has been covered before for various reasons.

Mine doesn’t spray, but I can also hear the motor buzzing.

I’ve also taken off the little plastic spray nozzle to see if it will then fire water out of the pipe, it doesn’t.

No water in the boot at all, it’s dry.

A little dribble of water on the exterior of the tailgate around the wiper arm, but that’s it.

What’s my next move ?

Thanks everyone.

Estate or Hatch, as they have different plumbing?

I assume it's a hatch, at which point the obvious are:

-Check the boot for floor, sides and rear lid water/damp, pipes can freeze and blow open connectors

-Check the motor, it usually takens longer than 3 years, but the insides of the wiper can rust out as the seals inside leak and cause things to rust, causing problems.
(Usually this is with the wiper not the wash, but I have seen a wash pipe filled with rust/scuzz.

Theyre the obvious ones.

i got my 67 plate octavia 2 weeks ago no rear washer but could hear pump . ordered new nozzle for rear wash from dealer for 6 quid , fitted in 30 seconds working perfectly now,

Have had this problem a few times.  The jets in the rear wiper get blocked quite easily.  I just poked a pin into both of them and wiggled it about a bit.  Solved my problem.

The same thing happened on my Octy 1.4 2014. The dealer said that the problem was caused by me using Halfords screen wash. I stripped the rear motor assembly, and found that the problem is actually a design fault in the use of sintered bronze on the hollow spindle that directs the screen wash from the inside supply pipe to the outside nozzles. The water is driven against the top of this pipe (inside the plastic 90 deg bend), and erodes the sintered bronze into a fine gritty paste that not only blocks the jets, but can also block the pipe itself, causing most of the problems that you read about concerning rear wipers/washers not working properly.

This problem had been around for years and both Skoda and Valeo (who actually make the part) are surely well aware of this ?

And they both make It so difficult to find a spare through anyone other than the Skoda dealership.
