Roof Bars

Featured Replies

I have some cheap Aldi/Lidl Brio roof bars on my Karoq. I am in a situation where I need to leave them permanently on. However the channel on the underside causes a permanent whistle. Other than using duct tape has anyone found a  rubber draft strip that will seal the channel?

I just had a look at my Brio bars, and I see what you mean about the channel; I have only used mine on a couple of occasions - not long enough to be annoyed by the whistle. Halfords were able to supply me with a rubber insert several years ago for the Vx bars that I'd bought for my Astra - but that was for the top-side of the bars. If you Google 'rubber insert for roof bars', there are a surprising number of options.

Good luck!

Thanks.

I was using the wrong search term. It's now down to finding the correct width that will securely fit in the bar slot.

I'm amazed that two strips from some suppliers can cost more than I paid for the bars!

I'll keep looking but in the meantime I might just go down the duct tape route.

Actually, the duct tape doesn't sound a bad idea; at least, it won't have cost much if it falls off after a couple of years. Istr that the rubber strip that I bought cost about £10, but that was for the top groove, so gravity wasn't an issue. The main reason I bought the rubber strip was to cushion a canoe on the roof-bars rather than sound reduction.
