So, is there a garage door opener retrofit for the MkIII Octavia? I'd like to add it to my model year 2020 Scout.

I believe you can search 'google' for third party offerings but be careful not to go for the type that is also a Radar Jammer - the police will throw the book at you if you do.

I dont know of a single garage door operator that uses an infra-red remote control, they all use the allocated  licensed frequencies reserved for that use, 868mhz and 433mhz.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to call attention to the IR part of the request; clearly, we'd be looking for modern garage door opener system compatibility.

I was surprised to find €500 and up for these kits online (none of which seemed to explicitly mention the Octavia) - I guess it's because the kits seem to integrate into the roof/ control panel.

I was figuring there ought to be one that would go in to / replace the driver's sun visor.

Eh, I guess I'll just buy an additional one with a clip and stick it on the visor :-)

 

I've had a remote controlled garage door opener for years now. Not given any bother. It's a 433mhz one with a little remote blipper I leave in the little cubby in front of the gear lever. Easy enough to operate from there and keeps things simple. Mine's a chain driven one. If I had to replace it I'd go for a belt drive one now.

This kit is for a Touareg but it might be adaptable for the Octavia. The buttons could work for a range of Skoda models, just not the Mk3 or Mk4 Octavia. But you could use the buttons through the MIB screen as shown in this thread. Euro Car Upgrades also have the Audi modules and a customer harness for both Volkswagen and Audi.
