Boot release button issues (works when open?)

Featured Replies

Hi I’ve had a look at the other sticky boot issues having previously fixed the issue before but I’m stumped as to what is causing my problem.

So every now and then the boot will become a right arse and sometimes pop open and other times just refuse.

When I go to press the button on the boot the motor does not whir and nothing happens. However as soon as I’ve popped the boot from the inside (after limbering up) and press the button the motor whirs and the lever springs to the side as it should..?

I’ve given the parts a clean out and a liberal application of our favourite lubricant and it’ll maybe work two or three times or not at all. What I can’t understand is why the motor just doesn’t even activate when closed but it’s fine when open? Any one else have the same issue or have fixed it?

Oh and incase it matters, it’s a 12 plate 1.6 TDI estate

I don't have solution but I do have some questions.

When you "So every now and then the boot will become a right arse and sometimes pop open and other times just refuse" I assume you mean that it just releases the catch to enable you to lift it? Or does it pop completely open like some models?

You said "as soon as I’ve popped the boot from the inside and pressed the button" . Could you please give more details of the button location as my 12 plate 1.6L does not appear to have this.

Do a search on this forum as I have read in past threads about micro switch failures in the unlock unit and bad adjustment of the catch.
