1.5L engine

Featured Replies

I bought a 2020 1.5 SEL first edition last month, first registered July 2020 from a Skoda dealer.  It was their demo and had 3000 miles on the clock.

It’s been back with the dealer for the last 10 days having a tow bar fitted and in the meantime they have given me 70 plate SE 1.5 as courtesy car. When I first took that car out it felt like a completely different engine, much better throttle response and no juderring or kangarooing when pulling away when cold.  This car feels much better to drive than mine despite being the same Engine. I know early on the 1.5 had this issue on some engines but I thought it had been sorted and would not been an issue with this car. I’ve asked the dealer to check for software updates whilst they have the car but anyone else have any experiences of poor cold engine getaways and sluggish throttle response?

I can only assume then that your car hasn't been properly sorted and fixed then.

I've heard that post-fix the problems are completely cured.

I had a Golf 1.5 TSI ACT DSG for a few days last year. It was brand new and didn't have any cold start problems or kangerooing. Although I believe the problems mainly affected manual transmission cars anyway.

I would have thought they would have got this fixed in the new model, it certainly isn't perfect on my mark 3 car but the so called software fix they did on my car fixed some issues and introduced some new ones. It is a very complex engine which runs very lean with cylinder deactivation technology. No kanagarooing on my car now but it feels flatter than it did before, fuel economy down a permanent 10% from previously and still occasionally the car will take a little nap for some unknown reason; which is kind of alarming if you have stopped at a roundabout or some such and it won't move at all. I have to try to restart the engine and eventually it wakes up and lets me move but it is a dangerous "feature" of my car which the dealers seem unable to replicate or explain.
