Putting private plates on my 2020 Kodiaq.

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so i just picked up my 2020 Kodiaq Sportline TDI 190 last friday, and my logbook has just come through, so its time to put my private plate on tomorow.

I intend to fix it uaing sticky pads, but wondered if anyone has any pics of their car with number plate surrounds fitted?

Also taking bets on how many holes will be drilled under the existing plates!!!

I never, ever drill holes for my plates.  Sticky pads every time. Smooth Perspex is easy to keep clean. Don’t understand why anyone would want raised characters to collect road dirt.

Swapped my dealer plates for private plates after months of delay with VWFS.

Minimum length of plate was 18” rather than 21”. All depends on how many characters. Our other car wears 14” plates.

Bought my plates on line. Fully legal characters and a nice black border.

No more dealer logos, EEC logos or anything else.

ps - the tailgate comes with fitted rivnuts for screwing on plates so your rear plate must be long enough to cover the holes. Dealer simply ****s up the front apron with a couple of self-tapping screws. My original must have been fitted by an untrained apprentice as the plates holes were among the roughest I’ve ever seen.

I've seen too many number plates with sticky pads fall off during the summer in the heat.

Parking sensors, badges, rear wiper, washer nozzle, reversing camera, there are loads of non-symmetrical non-flush components scattered about the rear of the car. A couple of colour coded screw heads aren't going to make much difference.

I went for an oversized rear number plate using the pre-drilled threads and plastic number plate bolts.

The front bumper has the indents for the dealer to drill the self-tapper screws in to.

I have always used sticky 3m vhb and never lost a plate yet tbh.

There was two sets of uneven holes under the front plate, and the back plates holes were offset!! Some moron obviously fitted them!

Yeah so i didnt end up getting any plate surrounds, but im happy with how it looks now anyway :)

My effort here.

The front plate has colour coded screw fittings [why they don't have the same fitting as the rear is beyond me] the rear has the usual plastic screws but longer versions, the ones that came with the car were cut down.

I added rubber grommet's to the number plate holder so it can centre the fixings easier as seen in the pictures.
