2021 Skoda Kamiq Review

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, Skoda recently gave me a Kamiq to spend the week with and I thought you guys as owners/enthusiasts would appreciate it most!

Happy to answer any questions you might have about my experience with it, but suffice to say, the Kamiq is an incredible value car and surprisingly awesome!

Great video Matt really enjoyed the content.

My partner spent a bit of time living in Aus and is surprised the Kamiq is as popular out there, didn't think this would be the type of car you would go for.

Had a 21 Plate kamiq 1.0 TSI SE DSG today with 244 miles on the clock and as a loaner for my 1.4 SEL Octavia. Have to say I was impressed with the engine, so much so I thought it was a least a 1.2 but no where as quick as my 1.4 TSI. The spec is very good with the 8” infotainment unit and digital dash which I liked a lot. Not too sure about the gesture navigation of the screens. Felt as if it lacked response. Took some getting used to the lane departure system and felt it over corrected my steering and a couple of times felt it was pushing me towards danger rather than avoiding it especially when lorries drift from the left lane and you try to move out to avoid them and the Steering drags you back towards the lorry, but liked the speed warnings in dash.

However the start/stop was horrendous. I drove the car 18 miles to work and all was good, but on returning home after 6 hours or so, after starting the car and pulling up at a junction 50 yards from my office, start/stop kicked in on a cold engine, as I edged toward the junction the engine started and stopped twice. The restart was as rough as hell, a lot of vibration and sounded rough. I managed to pull away, but it was hesitant and felt as if it was going to stall. Having driven about 300 yards and stopping at traffic lights, the engine didn’t stop as the engine wasn’t to temperature exactly as I would have expected. After that it seemed to settle down. But I still couldn’t get over how rough and how much vibration came from the start/stop each time. I’m guessing due to 3 cylinders, but enough to put me off wanting one. Start/stop on my Octavia is barely noticeable. The car is great to drive and couldn’t see much in the economy figures to warranty the 1.0 over the 1.4. Also the co2 is 137 on the 1.0 and 117 on my 1.4 so what is the advantage of the smaller engine.
