1000 miles to service but very low miles since last

Featured Replies

I do a very low mileage in my Octavia (I run two cars).

It was last serviced in July and has only covered 4000 miles since the last service although the 1000 miles to next service indicator now comes on. I have read that the indicator is also time-based, so if the average continues then the 1000 will run out at the 12-month anniversary.

Although set-up at new for variable servicing, it covered very high miles in its early life on the fixed servicing schudule!

Is the indicator likely to adjust itself so that if, say, I do 1000 miles in the next month, it will adjust itself based on the new average to the expected miles until July? Or is it definitely going to be 1000 miles from now?

Thanks,

James

I think one it has come on it's come on.

If you do regular short trips and only low mileage I would suggest that you might be better off on the fixed interval servicing. On my diesel i get about 20-30k between services, but that is almost exclusively motorway driving. Short stop start driving will make things go a lot quicker between services.

Another thing that might confuse it i guess would to be to lift the bonnet up, check the oil level and top up if it's really low. Otherwise the 10k mile/yearly service is cheaper than the variable.

I had the same problem on my previous car - a Golf. It had been put on fixed servicing when new, and when I bought it I had it swapped across to variable (it had never had a service, and so had "variable" oil in anyway - it had done 8,500 miles).

Sure enough, the light came on at the "fixed" interval.

It turned out that although they'd swapped it over on the in-dealer computer, they'd forgotten to tell the car.

I popped it back in to the dealer, and they took 5 minutes to do the swap properly.

Might be worth a phone call / visit to the dealer?

The indicator only displays miles so I think you are correct in believing that it is counting down to the 12 month point rather than 5000 miles. The latter would be too early if on variable servicing since the minimum distance between variable services is 15,000km (which converts to 9320 miles).
