Glow plug light

Featured Replies

Hi guys any advice to what's causing glow plug light to come on

Fault code coming up is

P046C powertrain

Occasionally EML light also coming in

Thank you

You've messaged me the code CAY engine, so you can add a simulator/ emulator as in the link above.

The engine will put out more NOx with this fitted, but will still pass an MOT ok  ( as NOx isn't tested at present ) & DPF will work ok.

Otherwise the EGR will need replacing.

It's that any eady fit as I'm good with the electrics but unsure where the engine is concerned

Thanks

I have fitted one, they are plug & play, the connector to the EGR I had to remove and refit the one from the emulator blind but if you practice on a similar one its not too hard, I have had it on and off since then (for a remap) and find it quite easy now.

Its a very good solution that has no noticeable effect while driving, if your EGR has failed in the open position they supply a blanking plate, otherwise its not needed, if its not fitted the emulator can easily be removed from the circuit if there is another fault you have any suspicion that it might be the cause, if the EGR is blanked then the engine wont run without the emulator.

Once fitted its invisible unless you go looking for it by tracing back the wiring from the MAF sensor under the intake trunking.

I've only fitted one to the 2l engine, but think the 1.6 is pretty much the same.

You just have to remove the intake trunking to the turbo, so that you can access the EGR electrical plug down the back of the engine.

The whole job takes about half an hour, whereas changing the EGR is many hours work under the car.

Then look forward to repeating the job 1 or 2 years down the line.

Also bear in mind that all the while the EGR is malfunctioning, it is preventing the DPF from working efficiently.

You don't want that blocking up.

Meant to say could it be something as simple as a clean car only done 43000 miles so still quite a young engine thanks guys for all the help so far

Scott I have just removed the EGR and cooler on the 1.6 CAYB engine and I am just about to put a guide on Briskoda.
