Hello everyone.

 

The old octavia makes a weird rattle sound about 2(and a bit) to 2.5k revs. Like a sort of old timey diesel going bonk bonk boink in time to the cylinder. Its loudest under partial load. Is it just a character of this engine or is something loose that someones had before.

 

60k ish miles. Gets plenty of motorway use and happens regardless of engine temp

Petrol or diesel?  Can you post a clip of the noise?

Diesel, I will have to go out tomorrow and get one, bet it doesnt do it tomorrow

I suspect this is the timing belt tensioner going southwards.  Happened on my 2019 Scout.  There is a TPI issue with the tensioners and the belts catching - causing a metallic clanky noise. Dealer sorted it under warranty.

A bit later than planned. Probably easier to hear on the video in the over run but its louder on acceleration
