Dipstick

Featured Replies

No, not me (although...)

Im finding the plastic top (where the tube meets the stick) is getting tighter plus i hate the bottome plastic bit with all the grooves on it

is there an old fashioned flat metal dipper alternative (like dipsticks used to be)?

Does a little bit of oil taken from the bottom of the dipstick wiped where the top fits in the tube not resolve the hard to pull out issue?

no, oil on the plastic does nothing

Really, well i never.

  But then i actually do.

When checking oil at operating temp before the job is done i always put a little oil at the top of a tube before returning the dipstick and have for over 50 years.

Funnily the dipsticks always come out.

Re the cross hatch, it does help see where the oil is on it, but actually when the oil is not needing topped up you should not see the cross hatch.

I dont think that mine was fully engaged when I got the car and I had never engaged it fully, as a consequence I had been slightly overfilling the sump.

My neighbour with the same engine pointed it out to me, it took a big shove to take its virginity and its still a little stiff to withdraw.

I've just tried removing my oil dipstick from my EA888 3B and I got to the stage where I figured there must be some sort of clip retaining the dipstick, as the force needed to remove it was way in excess of what should be required. It was like trying to pull Excalibur out of the stone.

Anyway I just hoiked it out with what felt like undue force, and noticed there was a little ring of yellow plastic from the dipstick handle which I guess had welded itself to the top of the dipstick tube.

At least I know the oil level is fine.
