vRS service quality at local dealership

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

I need help figuring out if local dealer ****ed me over or not.  I have Octavia vRS 2018 Mk3 with all the extras like DCC, ACC, RS package etc. with. I drove to my local official dealer for regular tyre change, tyre balancing, wheel geometry check and troubleshooting blind zone sensors on right side. After 5 hours i get the car back, they say they didn't find anything wrong with blind zone sensors which normal because their software is buggy as hell.

Anyways i'm driving home, after a kilometer I realize the drive mode is set to sport mode, then I check the driving data and it says 27 km. I was like wtf, did the service guy went on a joy ride with my vRS?! I checked Eco analyzer and it showed that before I started to drive, last 30 mins was pedal to metal, all the the green columns to the max. I asked them about that and they gave me  standard procedure bull****. Is it bull**** and the boys from service went for joy ride or it's just me?

There are some right cowboys and girls out there. Without naming the dealer which town or city did this happen at?

It's in Riga, Latvia, Green Motors dealership. 25 km in Riga is like 45-60 mins driving around the city. Do you think that switching to sport mode during checks and such mileage is legit?

Err..no. Rule is...leave it as it came in. A legitimate test drive would be within the range of 5 to 8 kilometres. It shows sloppy attention to detail which makes you think how well they have service the rest of the car. I would complain to the service manager if I was you.

Already did, and they told me that it's standard procedure. Just said that service guy forgot to switch back driving mode and didn't comment on high mileage and why sport mode was used.. :/ Of course the car seat wasn't set back to where it was. I have automatic seats.

During a service ECO mode is checked on road test no other is required.

As for checking blind spot if a fault has happened it should be logged even if not active. I have seen the latching of the connector in the door at fault and also the glass. But it is very hard if no fault is logged. I would call it - at time of test no fault found with no code. You could claim that the tech was going over and above driving so far to try and get the vehicle to fault needing to find roads which would bring up the blind spot detection. They must not be that busy wasting so much time driving around.  I'm surprised the tech was not questioned as to why the repair took so long. I would probably look elsewhere in the future.

Talked to another official Skoda dealership and  they said they record mileage before and after, they deliver the car back same as they have received and do not use switch driving modes to test wheel geometry or blind zone sensors. It's clear now that service went for a joy ride and do not want to admit it. Shame on them. Obviously will only go there if I don't have any other choice.

What one dealership does and doesnt do will vary. Some are official Skoda Garages and others are franchise owned by parent companies such as Arnold Clark etc.

Either way I would raise a complaint with the dealer principal to find out exaclty what was done on the test route and what the technician was testing for by switching the modes etc.

They might have been checking all the profiles whilst driving and checking for the fault as they do alter the behaviour of certain parameters etc. Equally he/she might have been joy riding in your car.

I’m not sure this Sport mode change is really a smoking gun. I mean, Sport mode in these cars basically does nothing. It’s a placebo. It doesn’t suddenly unleash an extra 100bhp or anything.

I'd agree if it was a manual but the DSG holds the gears longer... and a run in sport on the motorway has it constantly dropping from 6th to 5th which make sport no good for anything except chasing the rev counter......so I'd want to know what they were up to.
