Octavia VRS 2006 oil light

Featured Replies

High folks, so the other day I was in the mid-upper revs shall I say (not thrashing by any means) and the red oil light came on and bleeped...

I immediately reduced speed planning to stop but it disappeared, so as I was only a couple minutes from home and completed the journey.

Next day, I replaced the oil filer, chucked in 3.8l of 0530 and since then I have covered about 150 miles with no issues, until today. My partner rang up and said the red light once again came on, then disappeared leaving the amber light on.

I will be checking levels when I get home but I am not sure where to start really... Will plugging in a cheap diagnostics device help me out with codes here?

Thanks for help in advance...

A cheap DTC scanner MAY show what the car is doing.

Check the wiring to the oil pressure sensor.

ok it does point to something intermittent like that.... Are there any recommendations for a reasonable priced diagnostics unit do you know?

most of the bluetooth dongles on ebay/amazon are grand, then just buy and run torque pro or carista on your phone.

that way you can also log what its doing when it happens.

Check the wiring first, a diagnostic tool will only confirm what you have seen.

On high mileage engines it can be a sign of blockage of the filter screen on the oil pick up tube in the sump.

Ok thanks folks... It hasn't come back on for a bit... I was a little worried it might be a blocked pickup tbh.. She has done over 120k and I have thrashed her occasionally over the last 20k....!
