Noise on acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi

I’ve had a search through and couldn’t find anything in relation to my issue.

I bought a 2016 Superb SE L Executive  2.0 diesel a few months ago. Due to the current restrictions I haven’t been out doing many long distance mileage.

But I have noticed that once the car heats up - after so many miles, there is a noise when I accelerate.

Almost like a buzzing/vibrating noise. It’s only when my foot is on the accelerator, as soon as I release my foot it’s gone.

I had someone look at the exhaust as thought it may have been that, but they couldn’t see anything.

Anyone experienced the same noise/issue ? It’s starting to irritate me as it seems the longer journey, the louder it becomes ?

any help appreciated.

Well, I'm still wondering about a loose heat shield, most probably above one of the cats, or between the back box and the fuel tank, or on the exhaust manifold. Other than the manifold, these require a manual inspection, not just a visual one.

thanks, I do believe that one of the first things they checked was the heat shield.
I'm gonna get it looked at again but its one of those annoying things that can only be heard whilst out driving, can’t replicate the noise whilst at a standstill.

Well, that suggests a resonance coming from the tyres or suspension. Would your garage be able to lend you a set of a different make tyres?

Don’t think it a tyre issue, I’m more led to think it’s a vibration coming from behind the dash area.
I will get it looked at in the next few weeks and see if they can come up with anything else.
It doesn’t affect the driving of the car or the performance, but it’s really annoying !!

I have the same thing with my 2.0 diesel. I only hear it with the radio off. The vibration sound seems more pronounced near the center airvents. I checked behind the columbus screen but could not find anything. It is so difficult to pinpoint. Please let me know if you find anything.

My bet is Aircon pipes at the rear of the glovebox area, common fault with them as they are close together and vibrate on one another when accelerating, you can see them where they go to the heater box, gently ease them apart or put some rubber material between them

Just to be sure where to look. Do you have a LHD or RHD car?

Aircon pipes run the same side doesn’t matter if it’s left hand drive or right hand drive, easiest way is it’s the left hand side of the car 👍

How do you access these?

Remove the glove box lid and surround the look up towards the heater box and you will see 2 silver coloured pipes coming in through the bulkhead area towards the heater box, check to see if they are touching and if they are slightly and gently part them or put something between them like a thin piece of rubber, as long as you have a gap it will be ok but don’t go mad as they can leak if parted to much 👍

Took the torx screws out and freed off the glove box lid and surround but it was tethered largely in place by different things such as the glovebox cooler so couldn’t get in enough to see.
