Multiple lights went out at once

Featured Replies

Hey everybody,

We've had a Yeti for about 11-12 years now, so I'm not surprised there are issues with it, but I can't figure this one out.

A couple months ago I was starting the car to go home and out of nowhere like 5-6 warning messages came up about right main beam, left brake light, license plate light, etc. It was odd to me that so many lights burned out at once, so I restarted the car a couple times and that seemed to remove the problem. I know it's not the best way of solving a problem, but it was like 11 pm and I just wanted to get home lol. Anyways, the problem was apparently solved and the car kept running without issues till now. Couple days ago it was the same situation,  I was coming back home at night and when I started the car there were multiple warning messages about lights that are not working. Also, the blinkers are going super fast now (same thing was happening the first time). I found some topics on car forums about the similar issue where peoples lights randomly went out and the problem was apparently in the fuses. So, I checked the fuse boxes and found a burnt fuse No. 30 in the dash panel (front and rear lighter) and changed it. This didn't seem to solve to problem as the warning messages are still here, and the blinkers are still going H.A.M. I also checked the fuses to see if some of them melted which could also cause this issue, but as far as I know all of them are fine. I have absolutely no idea what to check next, so I came here to ask if any of you had this issue and was able to solve it.

Thanks

Could be battery voltage low, are you able to measure it before starting in the morning?
Also what engine do you have?

Changing a burned fuse will not resolve the problem of what caused it to burn or the consequences of it which you are suffering.

You need to bend the contacts in the fuseboard to make a good connection or if they have also overheated and lost their spring temper replace them and probably the board moulding if it has melted.

When you state the fuse was 'burnt' or melted, do you mean it was simply blown, or was there visible signs of overheating?

Are you getting other electrical gremlins, like with fan and/or radio head unit turning themselves off, ABS (and/or traction control if fitted)?

If so, then I'd suspect the actual problem is with the alternator control wires, alternator clutch or battery. The cheapest of those to fix (and easiest to diagnose by text) is the alternator control wires. Do you get an alternator light when you switch on but don't start the engine? If not, then it's the control wires almost for sure.

Fuse 30 is for the 12V accessory socket so has no relevance to lights.

As mentioned above you really need to check your battery as a failing battery is well documented on here as causing many spurious and random faults on Yetis.

“Terminal 30 right” is not fuse 30, so i discovered. J519 controller is not happy with low supply voltage.

Terminal 30 is all circuits hard wired to battery. Manual refers to terminal 30a and 30g. But not sure what those are exactly.

google terminal 30 right vcds and ross-tech will tell exactly what it is and the fault with pic of burned fuse terminal.

Poor connection to Fuse SB16 in engine bay. Mine is working with new fuse and CRC-2/26. See how long. Still reading to see if fuse terminal can be got to or one day needs new fuse box B because all the bits are custom formed - what the pictures suggest.

Moral. Ignore the maxidot messages. Use vcds. Clear all fault codes. See whats left on rescan. Google the fault.

Could have been a 5 min fix. Took days and detour past front indicator replacement.
