2017 1.4TSI DSG buying advice

Featured Replies

Hey folks, about to pull the trigger on a low mile used Superb Estate from 2017. It's the 1.4 150bhp DSG.

I gather this engine has been less bothersome than the 1.5 that replaced it. I am wondering if there is anything about the DSG used on this model that should be checked or understood before purchasing?

The vehicle is offered with a 2yr Skoda Warranty from the dealership so I guess that covers a lot, but we're hoping the keep this for a 7 years or so, so want to be sure we're making a wise choice.

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I have had 3 Skoda superbs to date, one diesel a 1.4 and now a 1.5 all with dsg gearboxes. The 1st two covered around 60000 in a three year period with no problems whatsoever with the dsg gearbox.

Thanks, great to know! Seems you have enjoyed owning them too.

I think they are a wonderful car and great value for the money and so reliable.

I've got the 1.4 and I reckon it's an amazing engine. It pulls like a train and is very quiet.

DSG has been ok, although I did have to have the switch replaced. A known fault with all vag cars.

Good to hear. Amazing to think that anything less than a 2.0 in a car that size 20 years ago would be considered too small.  What they squeeze out of it is remarkable.

Is that the switch on the shifter itself for something internal?

No it's a switch in the gearbox. If you look Here it explains it.

Not many people get this fault, seems to be a bit random. It may even be eliminated on the later models.
