i'm back

Recommended Posts

i'm back in a fabia vRS estate ( had 3 of them now ;) ) i forgot how much fun they are to drive :D not had it long it need some TLC but got skoda service history up to 2016 and it been serviced at the same place the last 5 years and in them 5 years it's only covered 20.000 miles.

engine is good no oil problems still on full mark after 500 miles but its book in for timing chain and water pump at skoda as i can't seem to find it ever being changed and it's on 140.000 miles now. DSG is good on problems (but need to check to see if it's had the recall) will be when it go for it's timing chain. in general it's not in bad shape bodywork is ok need some paint work on some parts wheels need a refurb but it's 9 years old so it's going to need some work and i can upgrade part as i go so looking forward to see were i end up with the car as they have a lot of porential to be a great little car

So an early 2012 car and a CAVE.   The water pump if it needs done and when done needs the 2 belts done at that time.  If the timing chain and tensioner is fine then no need to have changed.  They were not the issue the same as came about with the CTHE can have.   If the DSG never got '34F7' done between March 2014 and now I would leave well alone and not have it done.  Check spare tyre well for sticker.  And check with Skoda to see if the engine was replaced under warranty before 2015.  No problem if it was but good to know if it was.     Skoda main dealers can charge far too much to do the water pump or timing chain compared to a good independent VW specialist.  Just be sure if you want these done purly as preventative servicing that you are not paying over the odds.

PS.  Dealership staff might call them Recalls but they were not DVLA safety critical recalls.  They were just 'Service Campaigns' .  Really these should have been classed as Safety critical though.  So heated seats. Also pre 2013 with some a Wiring loom in front engine compartment are covered by TPI, s.    Might come up as Recall actions if outstanding.  http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions

to be honest i'm getting it done to stop big problems all coming at once as timing chains, water pumps and turbos are weak points. Normally i do it but too busy with work and my dad pass a way no long ago so still dealing with that and i get on with my local skoda dealer and they going to check the hole car over for me at the same time. It give me a head start were to look as i will do most of the work on it as i want to upgrade most parts as i plan to keep it forever.

Timing chains and turbos are not a weak link the CAVE engine Twinchargers and the water pump needs replaced or not as and when it needs replaced.  They commonly go at around 5 or 6 years and even at half the miles of your car has done.  It might have been replaced previously and there is no record or maybe it is still the original.
