Headlight on light

Featured Replies

Now I may well be being thick here, but I can't see a low beam on warning light, got the usual blue high beam but nothing to say the lights are on , on the dash, 1.5 SeL with auto led headlights even switching them on manually gives no light ****ing down with rain and I wanted to know my lights where definitely on.

The only indication that the headlights are on is the symbol on the headlights switch illuminates.

The Fabia III is the same.

No warning light for side/parking or dipped beam.

With the lights off                             the dash lights are on,            and the centre console switch lights are OFF.

With the side/parking lights on      the dash lights are OFF,          and the centre console switch lights are on.

With the headlights on                    the dash lights are on,            and the centre console switch lights are on.

With the lights off or on side/parking, the dash lights also get darker the darker it is, and brighter the lighter it is.

Thanks, AG Falco

That's not easy to see how daft, but it illuminates when switched to auto wether they are on or off.

Glad I'm not going totally daft.

The headlight symbol only illuminates when the headlights are on, either on auto or by manually switching them on

Still bloody daft and very hard to see, I'm sure my switch is always illuminated, but I'll check tomorrow.

It's standard VW/SEAT/Skoda/Audi I'm afraid. If you have a satnav system you can set the map to change to night-time mode (ie dark) when the lights are on, and that makes it very obvious when the lights are on (either because the Auto setting has turned them on, or because you have turned the rotary switch. After driving VWs or Skodas for 22 years I'm used to it now!

Chillax , embrace the technology, you get used to the auto lights doing their thing, and they are very good at doing it. If it’s dark it’s easy enough to see the lights are on, when it’s raining they come on automatically, and all it needs is a customary glance at the light switch to check. The only situation they might get caught out is when it’s misty and you might have to turn them on manually.

I'm used to auto lights had them for years but they have always shown a lights on light, guess I'll just have to get used to no light ,  a slight hint is the instrument and switch lights go a little dimmer but that hard to see only noticed it as I was trying the switch setting.

VAG have definitely changed whether there is an indicator in the instruments - my 2007 Audi RS4 had an indicator in the instruments when the lights were on but our 2015 Octavia III doesn't. I think it's a backward step - but it is what it is

I'm sure my Yeti and Roomster did too.

My 2016 Yeti doesn't, nor does our 2019 Karoq.  On the occasions when I want to know if the headlights are on rather than just the DRLs, I'll do a quick flick onto main beam to see if the blue light comes on.

My first Yeti (2010) had the green headlights indicator on the dash, my second (2013) didn’t.

If you look at the upper console where your interior lights are you should see two small leds, they come on when headlights are on.

Yea but that taking your eyes of the road and  no red leds but two small white ones that I can't see from the driving seat without some contortions, not something to do whilst driving.

Really? I've seen them turn on for ~5s under a bridge, or when a car was parked in dense shadow then driven North in bright sunlight.

Exactly. Their making your car more visible to approaching traffic when hidden in deep shade!

Chris

During winter months I simply leave the switch in the ON position.

Thankfully, VAG are clever enough to switch lamps off when ignition is turned off.

In Summer months I go for manual control. ON or OFF. I know it’s old fashioned.

I don’t need to burn battery power showing me the couple of meters to my door under street lamps.

And KESSY means the lamps won’t be on before I open the door.

No, not "exactly", unless you're claiming that you know better than someone who was actually there.
