Light upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have a Octavia 2017 and I'm interested in upgrading the headlight units and tailight units to the LED ones, the ones from the facelift version. Pictures attached.

My question is if anyone out there done this would I find any issues along the way? Would they work, or I need some soft upgrade?

Size wise the look the same, are they actually the same size?

Do they have the same connection port aor do you need an adapter, if one exists.

Waiting for your reply. Thank you.

They are the same physical size.

For the LED taillights, you'll need an adaptor loom and some coding changes.

For the LED headlights, you'll need to add level sensors, an AFS/headlight controller, various wiring and adaptors to get the levelling to work. You'll also need headlight washers if they aren't fitted as standard on your model.

In short, taillights are pretty easy, headlights are much harder to do and keep it road legal/MOT friendly :)

And costs??? Beside the units themselves.

Thank you

I've no idea on costs, it's not something I've looked into on a MK3 as I already have LED front and rear on my vRS.

Just did a cursory google for you, check before you buy anything and I expect other suppliers are available.

For the rears, I'm not 100%, but I think you'll need adaptors something like these which are ~€70. You can probably make some for less:

- hatchback: https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/tail-lights-3/led-tail-light-adapters-from-octavia/

- estate: https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/tail-lights-3/led-tail-light-adapters-from-octavia-2/

Obviously you'll also need to find someone who can recode the car for you too as a dealer is unlikely to want to help.

Fronts are much harder

-one possible loom is €165 https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/xenon-led-ballasts-8/autolevel-o3-full-led-wiring-harness/.

- modules are probably around €250-300 from that supplier but I'm not sure exactly sure which you need

- you might to replace other modules like the CAN gateway or BCM depending what's currently fitted

- no idea about washer jets, maybe €100-300?

Most of the module costs will depend on if you can find the correct used versions or if you end up buying new then having them parameterised for your car.

If you're serious about the headlights, I'd suggest you buy some time on https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/ to get the factory wiring diagrams.
