Campervan Conversion! Help Please!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone...I'm wondering if any one could help, I've recently bought a roomster 2 2008 and fancy turning into a campervan, I've found the bed for the inside but really need a tailgate tent or something similar to give me more space, I've searched all over the web and I'm struggling to find something within my price range(£150ish) that would do the job!

Anyone any ideas please!!

Thanks!

I used a reasonably priced tunnel tent with front windbreaks to reverse my estates, vans or cars up to and this was good for being able to drive away from if i needed to.

Also worked for using the side doors up to the tent in some locations.

There are more Roomster Camper threads and also Yeti ones. Some in the Project Sections.

Thanks do much for the replys...I'll have a look at the the camper threads...

The decathlon one looks ideal...I know this may sound like a silly question but would tent fit into the tent so that it's a tight fit?

Thanks again!

That doesn't even make sense sorry!

I mean would the tent fit over the tailgate if it was up and be a good fit if that makes sense?!

you can make the tent fit the car, just get the right one.

Extra guy ropes, bungiees / bungee cord and pegs.

That looks brilliant mate..do you have a link to the tent you have in the pictures please?

@J.R.   Gave you the link.  Arpenaz Base M. From Decathelon.

£99.99 now,  the member that posted the picture says they paid £79.99 in the last posts of the linked thread.

Still much cheapness a couple of years on!

Cheers..I thought you might have had a different one...I'm gonna go for it..really was thinking I woud'nt find anything suitable tbh....anything else I need to know?

I have different,  a tunnel tent and an airbeam tunnel tent that i could actually put the whole car inside.

Sorry no pictures.

This sort of thing, but these are for taking bikes into beside us.

I do not put the poles in the ouside hoop just elasticated cord and tie down onto the car once i need to at night or if windy.

Cheers @roottoot they look great thanks for the pics...like the idea of having the whole car inside!

Think I'm going to take the plunge on the decathlon one..it's got great reviews and for £100 it's cheap enough!

Any tips for setting it up?!

Just to get it erected before you head off anyplace and near a garden hose if you can and see where leaks are if any and maybe then waterproof seams etc if needs must.

As well as the tent i used a pop up XL toilet tent.

I now carry  Portapotty and the toilet tent in my Electric car now and have been glad i did during lockdown time when i have been able to be on trips.

One like this.

You get smaller ones cheaper than this.

Cheers...yeah that's a great idea checking for leaks before hand!

I'm going to ordering the bed unit from simple camper conversions it's 329 for the module but £140 on top for the cushions...would you just get your own? As that seems quite dear to me.

Thanks for all the advice!

When i had a camper van i bought the sleeping cushion and backs from a caravan seller that had odd spares in a store room from when they had converted van or camper van layouts.

Then for an Alhambra i used to sleep on a foam single mattress from Ikea.

Ikea is quite good for stuff that can be made to suit use in a camper with just a bit of imagination.

The only thing we struggled with was the gap at the side of the boot when it was up inside the tent..anyone ideas how I can close it off? @roottoot

Hey! That looks great!

Did you build the wood out yourself or buy it that way?

And do you have to take out your back seats or can you leave them in and still have the bed?

Regarding the gaps, I wonder if it's just a matter of trying to squeeze the car back a bit more so that gaps are further away from the user area? But obviously I have no clue  haha

Hey!

I bought it that way from simple camper conversions..I'm not that way inclined to build it myself!

It's a great bit of kit and would recommend it to anyone who has a roomster....there's more room inside than I expected when it's a bed and you can have it as sofa if you just want to chill!

I got the car as close as I could to the opening but it would'nt fit all the way in!

Have you got something similar to my set up?
