When changing front door speakers

Featured Replies

Do folk generally just change the main 6.5" ones or the tweeters too?

If tweeters too, do I need to do the wiring and crossovers as well or can I plug and play?

(it's in a Mk1 Combi, not sure it makes a difference hence I've asked here)

I just changed the main 4 door speakers with these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/JBL-Stage1-621-Coaxial-Speakers/dp/B07Y5DRS5G

They have built in tweeters and sound really great; crisp and clear.

I also fitted an amped Sub which provides great depth.

They're what I put in the front doors and I'm not impressed, not even a little.

I think a sub is the only practical way forward.

And I hate doing wiring so it'll have to wait, or maybe I'll just live with the lacklustre, tinny, sound.

Honestly? The speakers have made a huge difference to the sound in my mk3 Octavia VRS. So much so that as they were wired in first, I was considering not installing the subwoofer at all, but then I went with it anyway. And I'm glad I did .

Always go with components!!!

Separate mid/woofer and tweeter.

And I'd use the supplied cross over, but be aware how the signal gets to the existing speakers, have they already got the frequencies clipped?

Most definitely put in a reasonably decent subwoofer.
